DJ WOODY VAN EYDEN

.......................................................................................................................................
... difference between primitive or stupid and inteligent or educated human
is wisdom - means knowledge about present time which turn into the history
every next day and gonne with the wind ...
....................................................................................................................................
Thank God for the humans who have the musical gift. For these select few it’s not difficult in knowing the right sounds and grooves. They are versed in both the supply of trance music and the vibrating house sound. They know what people want and certainly know how to give it to them.
Woody van Eyden belongs to this select group of people. The native Dutchman born in Weert in July, 1963 has that instinctive feeling which gives people the fuel to dance their ass off. Woody knows how to transform a dancefloor from a boring empty space into a floor with crying, trembling and ecstatically dancing people.
Since his birth Woody has had music in his blood. His mother was a well-known opera singer in the Netherlands, the brother a sought after studio musician since 1960’s and his sister a musician in her own right. When he was younger there was nothing else that fascinated him more than music. This fascination focused on DJ’s and has captivated him ever since. In June 1978 at the age of almost 15 Woody was the resident DJ of ’Joy’ in the Dutch city Roermond near his hometown Weert. Woody was one of the youngest DJs in the country at the time.
Two years later he won various DJ contests against stiff competition. In 1981 Woody became the regionally and only one year later the Southdutch DJ champion. Nevertheless, he made his final examination as a retail trade buyer with two years of marketing training. “When I finished my training it was already clear that my priorities lay completely elsewhere“, he said. Because of the fact that his mother had a musical career herself, she understood her son’s desire to make his hobby a proffession.
Bit by bit the Netherlands became too small for the rising DJ. In 1984, the year in which Woody finished his training, he felt an urge to summer to Ibiza. Upon arriving he promptly turned the discotheque “Angels“ into a public magnet with his unique style of mixing.
The contacts, which the nimble-fingered DJ made at the time were invaluable. Woody spent the winter four months in Belgium and three months in England further deepining his knowledge whilst also playing in some of the countries super-clubs. Before leaving Ibiza Woody secured a residency at the club “Extasis“ for the summer of 1985.
In the following years Woody made his home base Germany.
His actual aim was to go to America but that had to be put on ice for personal reasons. This didn’t matter as he was embraced in several German clubs as his mixture of bursting trance, balearic beats and elegant, funky house grooves had to be experienced. Packed dance floors were guaranteed if only his name appeared on flyers. He became resident in several clubs, toured all over Europe and began to organize groundbreaking acid and techno parties. It was in 1987 that Woody reached the decision to make his first production under his own name. Woody released the title “Party All Night“ – a rap song with his own penned lyrics.
In the beginning of the 90‘s Woody had already entereted himself in establishments like party organization. At the same time the Dutchman developed a preference for the booking and management of various DJs. This is where his marketing training benefitted him enormously.
The sympathetic DJ-star could not get away from the Balearic Islands. So, in the summer of 1994 he went to Majorca. Woody became resident in the discotheque Riu Palace and was not only the DJ but was also responsible for overseeing all club events for the next four years. In these four years Woody had brought 68 world class DJs and 12 Live Acts to the Riu Palace as well as organizin coverage on both Dutch and German Television networks.
In 1993 he became acquainted with André Tanneberger soon to be known as ATB. The conversation went something along these lines “You have the contacts and I make the music so lets collaborate“. This co-operation with André was extremely effective. This duo and together with Uli ’Spacekid’ Poeppelbaum founded Clubbgroove Records in 1997. All three of the founders work for and with each other as producers and remixers. Woody was among others a co-producer on ATB‘s chart topper ’Killer’. Additionally Woody signed top acts Rank 1, Bad Habit Boys, Alex Morph and Tom Borijn for Clubbgroove. Woody also became a member of the rave sextett ’Sequential One’. There just was no rest for Woody!
As a DJ Woody became more and more in demand. Bookings from Minden to Miami, Schwelm to Sydney and from Moscow to Abu Dabi were some of the places requesting his services. His music was and continues to be in demand all over the world.
The 48 individual productions for which he is responsible for are absolutely convincing of his talents. This dates from his first release in 1987 under his own name to the chart successes ’Time Now’ and ’Get Ready’ up to the success oriented productions with the project Re-Flex. This innovative project entered the German sales charts at position 30 with the tracks like ’Lui’ and ’Ubap’.
All this success didn’t go to his head as he continues to find ways to give back the community. An example of this work is the charity project ’United Deejays’ which was in favor of hurricane Mitch victims, where Woody was co-producer along with André Tanneberger (ATB).
Woody has also been in demand as a Remixer. Woody did not only remix ATBs ’Don't Stop’ but also added his magical touch to tracks by Outhere Brothers, Bad Habit Boys and SQ 1.
From basement parties with schoolmates in the middle of the 70's to one of the busiest DJs and producers of our time. However, his success has a simple reason “I live my dream and not dream my life.“
